When Zeus sent two eagles – one to the east and on to the west – with the mandate of locating the world’s centre, they met over the Delphi area. Much later, the renowned Delphi oracle was built on that same consecrated land. In ancient Greece, olive trees were considered pure and sacred. During the classical era, priests preferred olives and olive oil originating from that area for their rituals. Nowadays, Greek olive groves stretch from the rugged mountaintops to the Mediterranean sea.
